Have you heard about NHCX: A single portal for health claims? 💉🤕

NHCX (National Health Claim Exchange) is a digital platform developed by the National Health Authority (NHA) and the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It was developed on the recommendation of IRDA and NHA.

Why it matters?

  • The portal will bring all the players involved in the claim process to one place (i.e. hospitals, TPAs, insurance companies, laboratories, polyclinics, etc.).
  • It will simplify, speed up and standardise the claim settlement process through the seamless exchange of information and documents between payers and providers.
  • It will reduce pre-authorisation, waiting time, and approval time at discharge and reduce the number of documents that need to be submitted.

Zoom In

  • At the current moment, the portal is designed to support and facilitate cashless claims and not reimbursement claims. Although IRDA has claimed that it will move to 100% cashless claims soon.
  • The reimbursement process will remain unchanged and outside the scope of NHCX and will continue the current process.

What Next?

  • These are still early days; the portal is expected to start in the next 2-3 months.
  • The success of the platform and the subsequent percolation of benefits will depend on onboarding the maximum number of insurance companies, TPAs, and hospitals.
